Caring student makes a difference

Staff ReporterWeekend Kwinana Courier

The Secret Harbour girl, whose father is a WA Police officer responsible for the remote Aboriginal community in Kiwirrkurra, learned of the children’s plight after talking with her dad about the sporting activities he’d helped organise in the area.

The Year 7 student started a fundraising project to collect unwanted sports shoes, donated by fellow students, and send them to Kiwirrkurra with the help of the Education Department and PCYC.

Peel Crime Prevention and Diversity Unit officer-in-charge Sgt Paul Trimble, who accepted the donation, said the shoes would be presented to the school and surrounding communities by local police.
