“There has been lots of requests for Lego and Star Wars,” he said.

“Unicorns too.

“Only a few have asked for pets.

“The most popular has been bikes – particularly purple ones and trucks – you know, a big truck.”

He said the weather had been easy to adjust to.

“I lived for a time in the tropics, the heat doesn’t bother me much,” he said.

“It’s not a sentence to be here.”

He said the biggest fascination kids held were with his reindeers.

“They ask me about the reindeers, where they are while I’m here,” he said.

“And I tell them, ‘they are on the roof and we put magic powder on them so no one sees them’.

“Otherwise people might try to take them and make them theirs.

“Or when I go to go home the only thing up there will be the sled.

“But they are mine, they are my friends. It’s OK, Rudolf looks after them.”

Santa said he had met some amazing people and loved his job.

“I hear all sorts of lovely stories; people in wheelchairs come and talk to me,” he said.

“That’s what lights things up for me.”
