Joanne Abbiss will take on the role from the beginning of next week for a period of two years.
Ms Abbiss is not new to local government, having been the chief executive of neighbouring Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale from 2005 until 2012.
For the past 12 months, Ms Abbiss has been running her own successful consultancy company, as well as being a board member of the Peel Development Commission, teaching at Curtin Law School and working towards completing her law degree.
Mayor Carol Adams said Ms Abbiss already had experience with the organisation after completing the City’s Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan earlier this year.
‘It is important for the staff, council and community that in this era of uncertainty we have attracted a CEO who has outstanding leadership skills and strengths in the area of strategic planning, financial management, governance and communication,’ the mayor said.
