City of Rockingham council gives a tick to The Spires phase two

CITY of Rockingham council voted to allow an increase in density for The Spires Phase two development in Baldivis last night.

The approval brings Baldivis a step closer to seeing new five-storey apartment blocks erected along Nairn Drive.

Original plans had densities ranging from R25 to R60, which would have allowed for about 850 dwellings but the new R100 coded land would provide an extra 100 dwellings to the structure plan.

The City received no public submissions regarding the project, which led to Councillor Matthew Whitfield moving an alternate motion to allow 14 households to comment on the plans; a move he said was in the interest of fairness.

However, despite support from Cr Lee Downham, the motion was defeated 8-2.

The original motion was passed unanimously.
