THE City of Rockingham is taking applications for the Tertiary Scholarship Scheme.
The scheme focuses on supporting Rockingham students between 17 – 40 years of age who will be studying in semester one 2019.
It provides support for students who have received an offer or are currently enrolled to complete an undergraduate university degree or TAFE/VET diploma for the first time. Rather than directly funding course fees, the Tertiary Scholarship Scheme supports students living expenses and enables them to attend tertiary institutions.

“The Tertiary Scholarship Scheme has been popular among students since the City first implemented it, with 21 scholarships awarded to students last year,” he said.
“The City identified during consultation for its Children and Young People Strategy 2018 – 2023 that the costs and complexities of residents living situations often created barriers that stopped people from attaining qualifications.
“By offering assistance through the scheme we can help students overcome issues including book fees, transportation costs and general living expenses.
“Figures from the 2016 Census indicate that only 10.6 per cent of Rockingham residents have a degree, in comparison to 22.9 per cent average across the Perth metropolitan area. So the City is very interested in helping students pursue their academic goals.”
Applications for the scheme will be accepted until Friday, February 22.
