THE City of Rockingham paid tribute to volunteers from local advisory and emergency groups during a special celebration at the Gary Holland Community Centre last night.

More than 100 volunteers and guests were on hand to celebrate the contribution of the City’s advisory and emergency groups, with the occasion marked by the presentation of the National Medal to Bert Scarrott from Singleton Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

Mr Scarrott was presented with the medal in acknowledgement of 35 years service as a volunteer and the fact he has risked his life to protect the community on numerous occasions.

Mayor Barry Sammels said the volunteer celebration was an important opportunity to recognise those who dedicated their valuable time and effort into making Rockingham a wonderful place.
