City of Rockingham releases Strategic Community Plan

Staff writerWeekend Kwinana Courier

THE City of Rockingham has released its Strategic Community Plan 2019 – 2029, which will shape the direction of the City over the next decade.

The updated community plan is the product of extensive engagement with the community that began with a series of Planning for the Future workshops between February and May 2018. During these workshops residents shared what they value most about Rockingham and what they wanted the City to be over the next ten to 20 years.

Throughout this process more than 500 suggestions were received from people who have a stake in the future of the community including schools, local businesses, community members of a local charity, a working group of Rock Port subscribers and members of the City’s Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

The Strategic Community Plan 2019 – 2029 is underpinned by four key aspirations: actively pursue tourism and economic development, grow and nurture community connectedness and wellbeing, plan for future generations and deliver quality leadership and business expertise.

Mayor Barry Sammels thanked residents for helping shape the future of their community throughout the consultation process.

“Every four years the City conducts a comprehensive review of its Strategic Community Plan and creates a new one that looks ahead to the next ten years,” he said.

“As our City is a rapidly changing place to live, it’s vital that this review considers the range of new factors and expectations that are influencing our development.

“The City thanks residents for their support and involvement in this process and looks forward to working closely with the community over the next ten years to help fulfil the community vision and aspirations for the future.”

The City will track progress with the implementation of the Strategic Community Plan 2019 – 2029, with updates to be given on a regular basis.
