City of Rockingham teams with UWA researchers for coastal study

The project aims to improve understanding of the erosion and changes to the coastline over the last few decades to help with future planning for a sustainable, long-term coastal monitoring program.

The project is the first of its kind for the region with a unique collaboration that includes the university, local government and a regional coastal organisation.

The team will complete monitoring of the coast which will include measuring beach widths, collecting aerial photography and existing data to map changes to the coastline over time.

Researchers expect to see some interesting data on changes to the coastline over the last few decades over the next 12 months.
