City of Rockingham to launch Housebound Library Service

Vanessa SchmittWeekend Kwinana Courier

ROCKINGHAM residents who are unable to leave their homes will soon be able to access the wide range of items available at the City of Rockingham libraries, through the rollout of the Housebound Library Service.

Those who are physically unable to visit their local library, either temporarily or permanently, will be able to apply to have library items delivered to their house as part of the service in late 2018.

The service will also be available to live-in carers and to people whose partner, relative or friend who would normally drive to the library is away on holiday or unavailable.

It will make deliveries to each reader once a month, with members permitted to borrow up to 20 items at one time.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the service would provide a wide range of books in normal print and large print, audio books, magazines and DVDs.

The library service will also have e-books and e-audiobooks that can be downloaded to a device from the City of Rockingham Library Service at any time.

“The City is of the firm belief that all residents should be able to access the fantastic range of items that our libraries have, which is why we are delighted to be rolling out our Housebound Library Service,” Cr Sammels said.

“For those who are housebound, this service will provide them with an opportunity to connect with the libraries and the great work they do for our community.

“To help make the Housebound Library Service become as successful as it possibly can be, I encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering to deliver items to come forward.

“Your contribution in delivering items to members of the Housebound Library Service will be valued greatly, especially by the grateful recipients.”
