THE theft of City of Rockingham swings will not be claimed on the City’s insurance due to excess.

After reports of the thefts several days ago Mayor Barry Sammels confirmed the entire cost for replacement swings.

“Five birds nest swings have been stolen in separate incidents over the past six months,” he said.

“Yes they are insured – however the excess payable on any insurance claim is $5000 so there is no financial benefit in making a claim for these items.

“Each unit is $3000 (and) the total loss so far is $15,000, which is approximately the same cost as to create an entirely new small playground in another park.”
