THE City of Rockingham is taking applications for its Tertiary Scholarship Scheme.

The scheme focuses on supporting Rockingham students between 17 and 40 years old who will be studying in semester 1 in 2019.

It provides support for students who have received an offer or are currently enrolled to complete an undergraduate university degree or Tafe/Vet diploma for the first time.

Rather than directly funding course fees, the Tertiary Scholarship Scheme supports students’ living expenses.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged eligible students to apply.

“The Tertiary Scholarship Scheme has been popular among students since the City first implemented it, with 21 scholarships awarded to students last year,” he said.

“The City identified during consultation for its Children and Young People Strategy 2018–2023 that the costs and complexities of residents’ living situations often created barriers that stopped people from attaining qualifications.

“By offering assistance through the scheme, we can help students overcome issues including book fees, transportation costs and general living expenses.”

Applications for the scheme will be accepted until Friday, February 22.
