Coles set to join Kwinana Marketplace as part of extension

THE proposed $12 million extension to Kwinana Marketplace received a major boost last night with City of Kwinana giving its blessing to the development before it goes before the South West Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) next Friday.

City of Kwinana today confirmed Coles would return to the centre upon JDAP approval, with construction scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.

Mayor Carol Adams said the return of the supermarket would be a boost for the area.

“More competition at the supermarket level means more foot traffic in the city centre and an increasingly robust commercial environment,” she said.

“It signals to the commercial world, to businesses which may have been holding off, that Kwinana is open for business.”

Woolworths has been the only grocery shop in the Marketplace since the completion of its upgrade in 2012.

As well as a 5000sq m Coles, a new mini major, liquor store and kiosk are set to appear in the centre’s north-west.

Parking bays will also undergo change with shade sails to be erected.
