The mobile wildlife rescuer, from Orelia, was unable to continue her WildAmbo service after her car required extensive repairs she said were caused by bad mechanical work.

Kwinana Residents Action Group and Kearns Garden and Hardware started a campaign to get Ms Burtt back on the road, raising $500 to put towards repairs.

However, the real heroes of the day were locally owned Genie Exhausts in Myaree, which arranged for everything from new tyres to replacement brakes, a new thermostat, tail light and even cleared Ms Burtt’s radiator. They have refused to accept payment for either parts or labour.

Instead, they have urged her to put the money raised towards converting her garage into a dedicated ‘bird room’ instead.

Ms Burtt said she was overwhelmed by the response to her plight.

‘It’s not something I expected, I just wanted to let people know I wouldn’t be WildAmbo anymore,’ she said.

‘It’s amazing, all these years I’ve been doing this work and it’s never been this supportive.

‘I never knew so much faith could be renewed in people and the community.’
