But he quickly discovered that sport wasn’t one of them, after learning about the City of Kwinana’s Community Connections program in September 2012.

Only a few months later, Mr Charter regularly participates in tennis at Kwinana Tennis Club and is soon to begin bocce.

‘It has been great getting back into sports after my accident,’ he said.

‘Being able to access the community and doing something constructive in and around the community feels good,’ he said.

The Community Connections program is a two-year project funded by a Count Me In Local Government Inclusion grant. The program connects people with disability to local community and sporting groups; provides advice to clubs and groups in relation to inclusion and access, helps facilitate training for local organisations, while also assisting people who wish to start groups for people with disability or their carers and families.
