Coodanup man arrested after leading police on chase from Bertram to Harvey

A POLICE chase from Bertram to Harvey last night ended with the arrest of a Coodanup man (28).

Police claim a Ford Falcon was travelling above the speed limit on Mortimer Road, Bertram at 9.10pm.

It will be alleged the driver failed to stop when prompted and drove on to Kwinana Freeway heading south.

The vehicle continued at speed until police lost sight of the vehicle.

The police helicopter found the Ford and monitored its movements, advising officers on the ground.

The driver of the Ford continued along the freeway, before turning off at Mundijong Road. The vehicle continued travelling south along Mandurah Road and Safety Bay Road.

It will also be alleged the driver of the Ford travelled through the Mandurah entertainment area and Pinjarra, Rafferty and Mandurah roads at excessive speed before conducting a U-turn and heading north on Mandurah Road towards Coodanup.

The driver continued through to Pinjarra and collided with the rear of a police vehicle in Yarloop; the police vehicle received minor damage and no one was injured.

With the assistance from information provided by air wing officers, the vehicle was stopped by police on South Western Highway near Uduc Road in Harvey.

A 28-year-old man from Coodanup was charged with failing to comply with a direction to stop (circumstances of aggravation), reckless driving , having no authority to drive , possessing a controlled weapon and breach of bail.

He is due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court today .
