The crashed vehicle was a Mitsubishi Triton utility, allegedly stolen from a house in Wundowie on January 20.

Police claim the man attempted to gain entry to a house on Ashmore Avenue in Canning Vale.

They allege he then went to another residence on Ashmore Avenue and gained entry to the house. Police said he was armed with an axe and he stole the keys to a Ford Territory parked in the garage, before driving off.

The vehicle was then involved in a short pursuit with police, before it was abandoned at the intersection of Wilfred and Ranford Roads in Canning Vale.

Police claim the man attempted to run from the scene, but was apprehended by police shortly after. The axe was located in this vehicle.

Michael Peter Watterson (24) was charged with 14 offences including several burglary charges, reckless driving charges, no authority to drive (suspended) and criminal damage.

He is due to appear in Northbridge Magistrates Court today.
