Cyclist injured in Rockingham crash by alleged drunk driver

A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital after a crash involving a Toyota Hilux in Kwinana Beach this morning.

Police said the crash was on Rockingham Road, near Mason Road, at about 6.30am.

St John Ambulance staff attended and took the 56-year-old victim to Rockingham Hospital. The extent of his injuries are not known, however they are not believed to be life threatening.

Police claim the driver failed a preliminary breath test and was taken to a police station for an evidentiary breath test.

The driver of the Toyota Hilux failed a preliminary breath test at the scene, and was taken to Rockingham Police Station for a second, evidentiary breath test. It will be alleged the driver failed the second test.

A 32-year-old man from Rockingham was charged by summons with excess 0.05 per cent.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
