Dead dolphin calf washes up on Rockingham beach

A DEAD baby dolphin has washed up on a Rockingham beach.

Safety Bay resident Sam Peters came across the distressing sight about 1.45pm about 40metres left of the Safety Bay boat ramp.

“It was about an hour ago and yes just the one,” he said.

“It was a bit upsetting given its obviously a baby”

“I walk these beaches every chance I get and seeing a baby dolphin washed up, deceased with no apparent injuries is distressing.

“I reported it to local council to pass it onto the respective authorities.

“It’s sad to see and locals need to be made aware of it for sure.

“There’s always dead birds in the area, not sure if it’s related to that.”

The Department of Fisheries and the City of Rockingham have been contacted.
