VANESSA DeJong was left with a hefty vet bill after her dog Max was attacked while out for a walk on Safety Bay dog beach yesterday.

“We had no hope of helping him.

“After a few good punches to the head he finally let go and ran straight off.”

Ms DeJong said she was so panicked about her dog and getting him to vet that she did not speak to the owners of the white and black dog.

“He attacked with no warning and was not provoked,” Ms DeJong said.

“He simply ran straight at my boy and grabbed him.

“If anyone saw what happened we would very much like to speak with you.”

Max sustained six large wounds to his back and neck. The vet bill was $1200.

Ms DeJong urged dog owners to be responsible with their dogs and cautioned people to be wary of dogs off-leash.

She has reported the incident to the rangers.
