THE 2017 Shape Your Future Youth Careers Expo is a chance for local youth to explore what employment opportunities are available for them in their region.

A network of employment and small business support organisations will host the expo in the Gary Holland Community Centre in Rockingham later this month.

Made possible by the South West Corridor Development Foundation Incorporated (SWCDeF Inc.) and the Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce (RKCC) the expo received funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, the Department of Employment and the City of Rockingham.

Event organisers are hoping to attract more than 300 young people from the region to the event.

There will be a range of exhibitors from industry, employment service providers, training and support organisations.

A jobs board will feature vacancies targeting youth as well as a series of activities to encourage active participation in aspects such as barista training, block laying, driving simulation, mentoring and coaching.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it could help job-seeking youth.

“It’s a fantastic initiative aimed at addressing the high levels of youth unemployment in the region by bringing together industry and the various support organisations assisting young people to find work, training and a career path,” he said.

City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams agreed the expo would help youth.

“I commend the expo partners in bringing together these support organisations under one roof and essentially providing a one-stop-shop for youth looking for work, interested in training or trying to find a career path that suits their skills and interests,” she said.

]It will run from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, October 25.

The Gary Holland Centre is located at 19 Kent Street, Rockingham.

Those interested in attending can register via the RKCC website at Careers Expo.
