THE finishing touches have been made to a new adventure park in Wellard that sets new standards in playground design in WA.

The new public open space at Peet Limited’s The Village at Wellard has been designed to combine specialist facilities like a custom designed skate park and BMX pump track with a state-of–the-art adventure playground imported from Germany.

The playground’s 7.3m high climbing tower is a one of a kind in WA and was specially designed and manufactured for the new park, which also features a trampoline pit, climbable dome and kick-about area.

Expert designers were brought in to create the playground and surrounding landscaping, on Bellingham Parade, as well as the skate park and BMX track.

Landscape architects EPCAD came up with the overall design for the parkland and recreational areas and specially commissioned the adventure playground equipment and climbing ropes from manufacturer Berliner Seilfabrik in Berlin.

The climbing tower was the final piece of equipment to be installed last week, with the new playground now ready to engage, delight and challenge children of all ages.

Landscape architect Shadra Cooper said the new climbing tower at The Village at Wellard was the only one of its kind in WA.

“The playground is really different,” she said.

“The quality of the structures and ropes created by Berliner Seilfabrik are amazing and designed to last for generations.

“Our brief from Peet was to create an attractive and highly engaging public space that appealed to adults and children of all ages.”

The new skate park and BMX pump track were also specially designed for the park by Perth-based consultants Skate Sculpture.

Skate Sculpture’s David Synder said he had never seen public open space like the new facilities at The Village at Wellard in eight years of building skate and BMX parks in WA.

“This park is something new to WA,” he said.

“There is something for everyone – open spaces for families to relax and play together, playgrounds for kids, picnic areas as well as barbeques and walking paths.”

“Getting the skate park and the BMX path to fit in with all of this was a real challenge, particularly since we had to design something that would be good for beginners and experienced riders alike.”

“We put a lot of thought into this design.

“I’m really excited to see how the local kids like it.”
