THINGS are heating up in Waikiki with locals learning how to make fire spin and twirl.

Taralee Caine started the Fire Performers Group: South of the River earlier this year.

She has had up to 40 people attend the sessions, to share their skills or learn new tricks.

Fire performance is a group of performance arts or skills that involves the manipulation of fire; fire performers juggle, baton twirl or spin poi with fire.

“I consider myself a creative individual and I’ve always been drawn to fire,” Ms Caine said.

“When I started fire twirling 15 years ago, I felt like the euphoria of being able to express my creativity in the form of fire.

“When I perform for an audience, I think of it as exhibiting live art.”

Ms Caine said both experienced and inexperienced fire performers were welcome at her group.

“All the props I personally own are for all guests to use,” she said.

“People are also welcome to bring their own.

“Kids are very much welcome because we have glow/led versions of the fire props.”
