Timehelp volunteers celebrated the community program’s birthday at North Parmelia Primary School on Friday.
The national program was introduced to Kwinana a year ago with help from the Alcoa Foundation and City of Kwinana. It currently operates in 70 primary and secondary schools in three states.
Two Timehelp volunteers; Sandra Taylor and Diane Lawn, have been helping each week at North Parmelia Primary School, with library and reading assistance, and say it kept them happy and engaged.
Ms Cavallaro said the organisation was looking for more retirees who could spare two hours a week at a local school. ‘ You just have to have a good attitude and a desire to help young people. Needs in schools range from kitchen garden programs, literacy and numeracy support, to helping in the library,’ she said.
