About two hours later, Luke Smith replied that he had indeed lost his kid and that the goat’s name is Merlin.

“We now call him Merlin ‘the magician’ because of his little escape,” Luke said.

“He has escaped once but this was the first time we have had to rely on social media to find him.”

Luke found Merlin next to his dead mother at the side of the road on a return trip from Coral Bay about 10 months ago.

“We saw him standing next to his mother who had been hit by a car, so I thought I may as well take the little fella under my wing.”

Merlin was so young when Luke rescued him that he had to be bottle fed.

“He comes everywhere with us and follows us around everywhere,” he said.

“But this time he chewed through his lead and made an escape while we quickly ducked into the shops.

“I can only assume he followed people in he is a bit like that.”

Luke said he looked for Merlin for hours and did not expect to find him inside the shops.

Merlin has since hoofed it home to be reunited with Luke following his impromptu shopping trip.
