For more than 40 years, the group’s volunteers have made hundreds of wooden children’s toys, including rocking horses, dollhouses and play kitchens.
Due to health reasons, many of the dedicated volunteers have had to retire so the Medina-based group is calling all locals to get involved. Group president Gary Stidworthy, who has been part of the group for several decades, said he would be devastated if it was forced to close due to membership numbers.
‘This place is very important for the kids and gives us an outing away from home doing something that we love,’ he said.
‘We have made hundreds of wooden toys and it would be a real shame to stop now.
‘Volunteers don’t need to have any experience in wood work or painting. If anyone is able to volunteer a couple of hours a week, it would be greatly appreciated.’
The group works in a ‘Santa-like workshop’ in Medina, which is fitted with all the materials needed to build the children’s toys.
The workshop is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-2pm.
