Hundreds help to release snapper

Recfishwest grew the fish in a hatchery and staff were confident the snapper were big enough to survive in the ocean.

Nursing them to their current size cost $25,000, with the public helping to cover those costs through crowd-funding.

The aim of the exercise, known as the Snapper Guardian Project, was to improve the understanding of the species and to secure pink snapper stocks for the future.

The launch was at Woodman Point, next to the Cockburn Power Boats Association.
