THE City of Rockingham plans to put down a family’s labrador-cross called Jemma after a dog attack in Warnbro.

Jemma was being walked by children on August 6 when she escaped and attacked Tony Cronshaw’s maltese shih tzu Rusty (15).

Rusty was put down after the attack due to the extent of his injuries.

The City investigated the incident and a decision was made to put Jemma down.

Mayor Barry Sammels said following a four-week investigation, the City would not press charges against the owner or the people who were caring for the dog at the time.

“City officers conducted a full investigation and witnesses were interviewed,” Cr Sammels said.

“There is insufficient evidence to lay charges against the owner or the people looking after the dog which attacked the maltese shitzu.

“We understand it was a very sad and unfortunate situation for all involved.

“Dog attacks affect both families in a negative way and in this particular case resulted in two animals having to be put down.”
