Junior drag racing suspended until outcome of investigation into death of Anita Board

JUNIOR competition drag racing at Perth Motorplex has been suspended until the completion of an investigation into the November 11 accident that killed eight-year-old Anita Board.

Anita suffered fatal injuries during a licencing pass at Perth Motorplex.

The accident is under police investigation with the assistance of motorsport sanctioning body, Australian National Drag Racing Association.

Junior age categories for drag racing are set by the Association.

Perth Motorplex is the only facility in Western Australia where drag racing is held.

“The McGowan Government is deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our thoughts go out to Anita’s family and friends,” Sports and Recreation Minister Mick Murray said.

“We ask that the family’s privacy is respected during this very difficult time.

“Junior competition drag racing – which includes ages eight to 16 – will be suspended at Perth Motorplex until the investigation is complete.

“The suspension of this category of motorsport activity allows for a full investigation to be carried out into the nature of the accident.

“The State Government will wait until the details of the accident are clear following the investigation before taking any further action.”
