KWINANA resident Annette Taylor is one of many volunteers around Australia who will be celebrated during National Volunteer Week.
Ms Taylor, who is a retired hospital ward educator, has been volunteering with the Injury Control Council of WA as part of the Stay On Your Feet program for two years.
Stay On Your Feet is WA’s falls prevention program for older adults living in the community.
The program promotes effective ways to keep active and alert in order to prevent slips, trips and falls.
Ms Taylor is passionate about getting out into the community and talking to fellow older adults about how to prevent injury.
“It’s important to share proven strategies of prevention,” she said.
“Falls are a serious issue for people as they get older, with one in three people over the age of 65 having a fall each year.
“For this age group, falls cause more injury-related deaths than traffic accidents.”
