Kwinana Freeway closed as firefighters battle bushfire

THE Kwinana Freeway is closed in both directions due to a bushfire near the intersection of Baldivis Road and Serpentine Road in Baldivis.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services have issued a bushfire advice alert for people in this area as there is a lot of smoke.

The bushfire is moving slowly in a northerly direction and 45 firefighters from the Bush Fire Service are at the scene, actively fighting the fire.

They have saved homes in the area and aerial support has been sent in to assist.

The fire was reported at 1.09pm today and has burnt through four hectares.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

There is no immediate danger, but residents need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

The fire is burning towards Kwinana Freeway.

Residents are asked to stay alert and monitor their surroundings and watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

They are asked to close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.

Drivers are warned to be careful when driving through the area, turn their headlights on and drive slowly.

They are asked watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.

Drivers, who cannot see clearly, should pull over, keep their headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until smoke clears.

People are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
