Kwinana: shotgun, drugs and taser found in car after police chase

A MAN allegedly armed with a sawn off shotgun and in possession of methylamphetamine led police on a chase through Perth’s southern suburbs last night before eventually being arrested by an off duty officer.

Just after midnight, police attempted to pull over a silver BMW on Gilmore Avenue, Kwinana, but it is alleged the driver managed to evade police.

Police claim the driver was seen travelling at speed on the Kwinana Freeway, southbound before a successful stinger deployment near Safety Bay Road.

The 37-year-old from Brookdale allegedly continued driving the car before abandoning it near Karnup Road where he and a passenger ran into bushland.

Police were unable to locate the men, but upon searching the car they located a loaded sawn off shotgun, a loaded touch gun, ammunition, Methylamphetamine, cannabis, knuckledusters, smoking implements and a mobile phone taser.

At 7.30am this morning, the two men were located by an off duty police officer on Karnup Road, who arrested them both.

The driver will be charged with two counts of possessing a firearm with circumstances of aggravation, two counts of possessing and unlicensed firearm and ammunition, breaching bail conditions, possession of cannabis and methylamphetamine, possessing a prohibited weapon, evading police and reckless driving.

He was refused bail and will appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court today.

A 21-year-old woman from Brookdale will be summonsed for weapon and drug related offences.
