THE Village at Wellard has been named the best master planned development in the Urban Development Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence.
The local development was also a finalist in the Affordable Development category. State Government housing developments delivered in partnership with the private sector, such as the Village, stole the show at the awards.
Housing Minister Colin Holt congratulated the Housing Authority on an outstanding result.
“The industry recognition further validates this Government’s preference to work with the private sector to deliver high quality, affordable developments,” he said.
The Village at Wellard was described as a shining example of transit-oriented developments where residents benefit from easy access to public transport and are close to essential services, shops, open spaces, cafes and other amenities.
“The Village at Wellard was 12 years in the making and continues to be one of the best-selling estates in Perth,” the minister said.
“This is a testament to its excellent design and strong focus on affordability, community and sustainability.”
