A ROCKINGHAM woman has lost half of her body weight in the name of love.
In 2012, Glenda McDougall weighed 150kg and was depressed.
“I was eating a lot of junk food and drinking a lot,” she says.
When a former work colleague contacted Mrs McDougall out-of-the-blue, her whole life took an unexpected turn for the better.
Hearing from her former love interest was the catalyst that lead her to make the life altering decision to lose weight.
“I thought to myself, ‘I’ve wasted too much of my time… my life’,” she said.
“It was then that I made a conscious decision to lose weight.”
Four years on and 80kg lighter, Mrs McDougall could not be more happy and healthy.
“Since I’ve lost weight I’ve given up junk-food and alcohol,” she said.
“It’s about moderation. I still have one or two glasses of wine once a month.”
Peter McDougall and Mrs McDougall emailed each other while Mrs McDougall, with the support from her friends, family and her Jenny Craig consultant, worked tirelessly to shed the unwanted kilos.
It was only after Mrs McDougall had reached 125kg that she felt confident enough to meet Mr McDougall in person.
Their connection was instant and they married in December 2013.
Mrs McDougall said the biggest sacrifice was changing her diet.
“I love food,” she said. “But it’s about making the right choices, being prepared and not just choosing the quick and easy option.”
Committing to regular exercise also proved a challenge.
“I couldn’t walk to the end of the jetty and back without huffing and puffing,” she said.
Mrs McDougalls message to others aspiring to lose weight is straightforward.
“Make the decision and stay motivated,” she said.
