Man charged after police chase in Port Kennedy

A PORT Kennedy man has been charged after a police chase overnight, in which a vehicle crashed into a street light .

Traffic Enforcement Group officers claim a Toyota Hilux utility was speeding on Port Kennedy Drive at about 10.30pm.

Police activated their emergency lights and siren and indicated for the vehicle to stop.

The vehicle continued on Port Kennedy Drive to the roundabout of Warnbro Sound Avenue where it crashed into a street light.

The vehicle continued onto Endeavour Drive where the driver abandoned the vehicle.

The man was arrested. He was subjected to a breath test where it will be alleged he recorded a reading almost twice the legal limit.

The 21-year-old man will appear in court at a later date in relation to: exceeding the speed limit, aggravated reckless driving, aggravated failure to stop, failure to remain at the scene of an accident (property damage) and excess .08.
