Man charged in relation to Rockingham gold chain choking incident

A BYFORD man appeared in court on Friday in relation to an incident where a 65-year-old Rockingham man was allegedly choked with his gold chain.

Rockingham Detectives charged a 36-year-old man as a result of their investigation into an incident in Rockingham on Tuesday, April 11.

About 4:30pm, the 65-year-old man was walking to his car which was parked in the Rockingham Shopping Centre car park.

As he neared his car he noticed a man walking behind and towards him.

It is alleged the man grabbed a large gold chain the victim was wearing and attempted to pull it from his neck, choking him.

The victim dropped his shopping and car keys and managed to get his hands between the chain and his throat.

After a brief struggle and unable to break the chain, the man walked away.

The victim received bruising to his neck but did not require medical treatment.

The 36-year-old man from Byford has been charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery andĀ appeared in Rockingham Magistrates Court today.
