Man shot by police firearm, Major Crime investigating

A MAN was shot in the arm after a police firearm was discharged in Waikiki this afternoon.

Police were called to a residence in Mends Way, Waikiki in relation to a possible disturbance at 2.45pm.

While responding to the situation a police firearm was discharged, and a man received gunshot wounds to one of his arms.

St John Ambulance were called to the scene, and they provided emergency first aid before taking the man to hospital for medical treatment, where he remains.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident will be undertaken by the Major Crime Division – as per standard critical incident procedures. The Internal Affairs Unit will have oversight of the investigation.
