Mandurah court: man caught for fuel drive-offs

A MAN went to petrol stations on four occasions and drove off without paying, Mandurah Magistrates Court was told today.

Ricki Craig Russell pleaded guilty to six stealing offences and no authority to drive due to fine suspension.

Police prosecutor Pete Smith said Russell stole about $100 worth of fuel on four occasions from service stations in Singleton, Falcon and Bertram.

He said Russell also stole $35 worth of goods from Big W and $13 worth of goods from a newsagency in Mandurah Forum.

Police found Russell driving without a valid licence on June 27.

The court was told it was Russell’s fifth conviction for driving while under fine suspension.

The lawyer said Russell had been struggling financially. He said Russell now refrains from driving and catches trains.

Magistrate Anne Longden placed Russell on a six month community based order with 60 hours of community work.
