Manhunt for attackers

John DobsonWeekend Kwinana Courier

POLICE are hunting for two men who viciously attacked a homeless man with a broken glass bottle as he slept at the Rockingham foreshore.

The 26-year-old man was assaulted with a shop sign board and stabbed in the neck with a broken beer bottle at about 1.15am on April 6 at the foreshore gazebo, off Railway Terrace.

Members of the public helped the man who lost a significant amount of blood and was taken to Rockingham General Hospital with a deep wound in his neck, just millimetres from a main artery.

Police want to speak to two men over the callous attack.

The first male is about 20 years old, light skinned, with blonde short hair, blond goatee, thind build and about 180cm tall.

He was wearing a black zip up hoodie with a skull on the back, knee length dark shorts, long white socks and dark skate shoes.

The second man is about 18 years old, olive skinned, with short brown hair, medium build, about 170cm tall, wearing a maroon T-shirt with a motif on the front, shorts, white ankle socks and skate shoes.

Both men were last seen heading in a northerly direction along the beach towards Kwinana.

Rockingham Detectives Snr Const Kylie Thomas said two offenders stole the man's backpack containing some clothes and a journal.

"This is a heartless and very serious attack'this man was asleep, minding his own business," she said.

"The information we have so far is the two males may have been in the area and spoke to people before the assault happened - we think it's an opportunistic robbery."

"There were a lot of people still in the area fishing and following the Rockingham Easter Carnival - we want to speak with anyone who saw them or interacted with them.

"Had there not been people around to offer assistance, it could have been different."

The victim is recovering after being discharged from hospital on April 7.
