Men rescued off Rockingham as boat sinks

A GROUP of men were rescued off the coast of Rockingham today after the boat they were in began to sink.

A Fremantle Sea Rescue spokesman said four men were on a 7.3m aluminium boat eight nautical miles (14.8km) south of Garden Island.

The engine ran out and they opened the hatch to find it full of water.

The boat began sinking and eventually capsized.

Water police called the sea rescue groups and Cockburn, Rockingham and Fremantle crews assisted with the rescue.

Cockburn Sea Rescue towed the stricken vessel back to Rockingham.

The group of men were expected to arrive in Rockingham after 4pm.
