Mobile reception relief

Jaime ShurmerWeekend Kwinana Courier

The news brought relief to residents and businesses in Wellard, Leda and Orelia who presently struggle to get reception.

This week Kwinana MLA Roger Cook said a development application had been signed by the Public Transport Authority on April 9.

However, it may be some time before the outcome of Telstra's request is known, as approval can take up to 60 days.

"This is great news for the residents of Kwinana who have for too long put up with poor phone reception," Mr Cook said.

"Several meetings and discussions with Telstra are finally getting somewhere."

"This has been an ongoing issue for some time and it is really important that is gets resolved as soon a possible."

A Telstra spokesman said the application would be forwarded to the Western Australian Planning Commission for a decision.

"The development application is for planning approval to construct a mobile phone base station adjacent to the car park at the Wellard train station to enhance mobile reception in this area," he said.

"This application is subject to normal approval processes and plans will be publicly available. As with any such infrastructure " other carriers can co-locate their equipment."
