|MRI scans will be bulk-billed in the Rockingham area from March 1, following an announcement yesterday by Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt.
Mr Hunt said Waikiki’s Perth Radiological Clinic (PRC) licence for MRI will increase from a partial licence to a full licence.
PRC group chief executive Lenka Psar-McCabe said just 20 per cent of scans were eligible for Medicare rebates under the partial licence, but from March, all scans that attract Medicare rebates would be bulk-billed.
For people like Sue Fegebank, bulk-billing would have meant a $345 saving.
A sporting injury that failed to heal after two months required an urgent scan and waitlists elsewhere for a bulk-billed scan were too long.
She has regained full use of her thumb after paying for her own scan, which showed the ligament was torn and off the bone.
Any further delays could have necessitated a full reconstruction.
