A PLAIN maths block has been transformed into an aesthetically pleasing space to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Safety Bay Senior High School.
Students and staff worked with international artist Fieldey to create a special mural which paid homage to both the local area and the school.
Visual Arts teacher Tracey Sharpe said it was fantastic to see students take an active role in designing and creating the mural.
“Seeing our students engage with such an amazing and inspirational artist like Fieldey who they really connected with enabled them to make an inviting statement at the front of the school for all to see.
“The message of the mural reinforces the power of education to overcome challenges and to create opportunities.”
Principal Alen Kursar said the mural had made a positive difference to the way students and the local community saw the school.
“Seeing the splash of colour every morning coming through the front gates makes me proud of all the hard work put in by the students involved, Mrs Sharpe and Fieldey,” he said.
Year 9 students Amber Humski, Imogen Bradshaw, Willow Hanson, Lahana Kendall, along with Year 10 students Clairenn Raguini, Danniela Mandras, Camilla Gibson, Emily Taylor, Lillian Brown and Joshua Stilling worked on the mural.
Safety Bay Senior High School will be marking their 40th Anniversary with a free community celebration open to all community members, exploring the history of the school from its inception in 1978 to now.
There will also be performances from our Cheer-Dance Specialist Program and drama and music students, drills and exhibition matches from the Specialist Football Program and Visual Arts, Photography and Design and Technology students will have their work on display.
