This year’s Naidoc theme celebrates the 50th anniversary of the presentation of the Yirrkala Bark Petitions to the Federal Parliament, protesting at the Commonwealth’s granting of mining rights on land excised from Arnhem Land and leading to national acknowledgment of Aboriginal people and their land rights.
The City of Kwinana celebrated Naidoc Week ahead of national celebrations to allow residents the opportunity to attend both local and national events.
A variety of events ” including the Aboriginal Community Awards, the Albert Windie Art Exhibition, the unveiling of the Six Season Banners, storytelling, a guided tour of the Spectacles, a netball competition and children’s activities ” took place throughout the week.
