New CEO Michael Parker joins City of Rockingham

THE City of Rockingham welcomed new chief executive Michael Parker, who began his new role at the City today.

Mr Parker was the chief executive of the Shire of Harvey for 15 years, as well as former chief executive at the Shire of Wagin.

As a Fellow of Local Government Professionals Australia, recipient of the 2012 LGMA Medal, 2016 WALGA Distinguished Officer Award and previous Board Member and State President of Local Government Managers Australia, Mr Parker joins the City with impressive credentials.

Mayor Barry Sammels said Council was looking forward to working with Mr Parker to help shape the future of the City.

“The search for a new CEO was extensive, with 67 applications received from around Australia,” he said.

“Michael firmly stood out as the best candidate and we are thrilled to finally welcome him to the City.

“The CEO plays a key role in executing Council’s vision and we are confident Michael’s enthusiasm, knowledge and expertise will serve the City of Rockingham well over the coming years.”

Upon Mr Parker’s arrival, Mayor Sammels also took the opportunity to thank Director Planning and Development, Bob Jeans, for his outstanding contribution as acting chief executive over the past five months.
