THE new and enhanced Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club is now officially open for business.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels and WA Governor Kerry Sanderson AC officially opened the new pavilion yesterday .

The multi-purpose facility makes the most of the sweeping coastal views and includes new surf club operations for the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club, as well as a flexible function and meeting space, a sundeck, public amenities and space for a future café and gym.

“This new facility will activate the foreshore precinct and provide a wonderful facility for the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club and the wider community,” Cr Sammels said.

“The Secret Harbour coastline is one of the busiest in Rockingham.

“The new building will enable the club to continue conducting its patrols and programs from purpose-built facilities throughout the summer, and give beach visitors access to expanded amenities.”

The new facility cost about $5.9 million, including $700,000 each from the Department of Sport and Recreation and Lotterywest.

Cr Sammels said the pavilion exemplified the City’s community aspiration to provide facilities that accommodate contemporary community expectation and are justified, well used, cost effective and multi-functional.

The building, located on Secret Harbour Boulevard, was designed by Rob Anson Architect and built by Bistel Construction. Construction began in January 2015 and was completed in February 2016.

It replaces the club’s previous building of 20 years, which could no longer accommodate the club’s expanding operations.

The function space and meetings rooms are available for hire by the public. Call 9524 7092 or visit secretharbourslsc.com/functions-and-events/for bookings.
