Education Minister Peter Collier officially opened the new school on Avoca Chase yesterday.

Mr Collier said the school offered outstanding education opportunities for students, including specialist areas for music, health and physical education.

“Rivergums is one of four new primary schools opening this week; it’s a magnificent facility,” he said.

The school includes an administration block, a library, a covered assembly area, a canteen, a music room, 15 classrooms, an inclusive education classroom, an art and craft room, staff areas, cricket nets, hard courts, an oval and landscaping.

Mr Collier said a steering committee of parents had met regularly during the past six months to develop the ethos of the school, with the motto of “discover, believe, achieve… communities”.

“It is fitting that Rivergums Primary School begins as an independent public school, which will see parent and community involvement continue to shape the school for the benefit of students,” he said.
