It is alleged the man became aggressive with police and a struggle ensued between the man and the officers while being arrested.

During this time, the man’s dog escaped from his house and bit one officer on the wrist and the other officer on the foot and forearm.

The dog was unable to be restrained and officers deployed their pepper spray and taser, however both had no effect. The dog continued to attack officers, leading to an officer discharging his firearm and shooting the dog.

The officers were taken by St Johns Ambulance to Rockingham Hospital for treatment. One officer suffered puncture wounds, abrasions and bruising to his foot and forearm, the other officer to the wrist and forearm.

A 25-year-old man from Orelia has been charged with obstruct police and will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
