Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club (SHSLSC) captain Rick Lowe said the incident highlighted the danger of swimming in unpatrolled areas.
The two women were carried out to sea in a strong rip about 2pm, only 1km south of SHSLSC.
The surf lifesaving helicopter service contacted Surf Lifesaving WA, which liaised with local SHSLSC officials to get volunteer lifesavers Sarah Lowe and Sharon Phillips to attend the beach and provide assistance to the women.
‘The girls were able to make it to the beach by themselves, however one of the young ladies swallowed a large amount of water and was in shock,’ he said.
‘The two lifesavers transported the girls to the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club, administered oxygen and treated them for shock until the ambulance arrived and transported both women to Peel Health Campus.’
