Perth health worker kill accused ‘innocent’

A MAN accused of murdering a mental health worker by stabbing her in the neck at a Perth home has pleaded not guilty on insanity grounds.

Jacqueline Lynn Francis, 50, was attacked on October 6 last year in Rockingham then drove to a nearby cafe for help.

She was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where she died.

Shannon Scott Westerman Smith was charged with murdering the mother of three and remanded at a psychiatric facility.

He appeared in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court via video link from a high-security unit on Wednesday and said he was “innocent due to unsoundness of mind”.

He will next face court on October 21.
