Mr Rudd inspected the work done on the $9.7 million Mundijong Road link with Brand MHR Gary Gray and Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels.

It was Mr Rudd’s only visit to the marginal seat of Brand during the campaign. Opposition leader Tony Abbott also visited the seat earlier.

Mr Gray told the Mr Rudd the long-awaited road extension into Rockingham was due to open in April next year, which will provide a quicker commute from the Kwinana Freeway to Rockingham via Dixon Road.

Mr Rudd was full of praise for the incumbent, Mr Gray. ‘Today it is great to be here in Rockingham with the local member Gary Gray who is a vital minister in our government because we are all about building infrastructure for the future and this is it; here we are in outer suburban Perth in Rockingham and these good folks need the roads for the future,’ he said.

‘They need to be linked in with the public transport and the National Broadband network so the economic activity that grows in outer suburban Australia, like here in Rockingham turbo charges itself into the future.’
